Silver hair turns blonde after washing due to the fact that silver pigmentation similar to the pigments found in the pastel dyes for hair, are surprisingly weak. Therefore the silver hair tends to fade to blonde, regardless of whether you apply permanent or semi-permanent silver hair colour.
After every couple of washes, use a purple-based colour-correction shampoo to maintain the silver hue for a longer period of time. If your hair appears quite silver but you’d like to change it back to blonde shades, you can apply an anti-dandruff shampoo that will cause the silver hues to fade.
Certain hair colours can create a bold appearance. The colours of pastels and silver will usually get noticed easily. Nevertheless, their maintenance isn’t easy. Unfortunately, we must be truthful with you. If you’ve dyed the silver hair, there is a likelihood that you will have to bleach your hair as light as you can.
In the initial couple of days, or for up to the initial two weeks, silver colour is bright and vibrant and can be seen all throughout your hair. After many washes, the silvery hues will begin to fade to its original colour, which is a very light blonde. This will always be the case no matter what hair dyes that you have employed, regardless of whether it was permanent or semi-permanent. This occurs because the silver pigmentation tends to be weaker.
If you find yourself in this situation, there are two ways to deal with it:
- Continue to show off your silver hair by doing routine at-home toning using masks or purple shampoos.
- Eliminate the silver residue applying an anti-dandruff shampoo.
Let’s look in-depth at each one of these alternatives.
IF YOUR HAIR IS STILL LOOKING RATHER SILVER AFTER A FEW WASHES, APPLY AN ANTI-DANDRUFF SHAMPOO
To eradicate the silver hair dye, a lot of our clients are tired due to the fact that silver hair requires much more than the average amount of care and maintenance. After a few days of their shiny silver hair, these clients begin to miss their hair that was once blonde. Occasionally, the silver colour does not fade evenly.
What is the best way to eradicate the silver hues from your hair and fading it to your blonde shade again?
It is possible to use anti-dandruff shampoos as they contain a greater quantity of detergents that can cause a corrosive effect to the silver dye. Our suggestion is to try it just once.
Shampoo your hair using the anti-dandruff shampoo in the same way that you normally wash your hair followed by massaging and lathering. After you have rinsed out the shampoo, allow your hair to dry completely and then take a look. Do you have any silver left? Patiently wait for another three days later to repeat this process. In the next few days your hair is likely to be free of silver hues and finally, the hair will be blonde.
Now is the time to moisturise your hair for it to replenish nutrients and vitamins, as the anti-dandruff shampoo tends to dry out the hair. Apply moisturizing and hydrating products that provide plenty of hydration to nourish your hair. You can consider using olive oil or coconut oil.
IF YOU WISH TO ENSURE THAT THE SILVER SHINE IS LONGER LASTING, THE BEST OPTION WILL BE A PURPLE MASKS OR SHAMPOO.
Shampooing the silver hair with purple shampoo. You can apply the silver hair dye. But we wouldn’t recommend it as you must be patient for a minimum of two weeks. Permanent hair dyes contain harsher and harmful chemicals for your hair.
The developer as well as the ammonia ingredients are very aggressive for the hair. This is why permanent dyes are applied every four and five weeks. So, a permanent silver dye every 2 weeks for your hair is considered too harsh for your hair.
You’ll be thinking, “What if I use a semi-permanent hair dye?”
It’s also crazy. Although they contain less chemicals than permanent dyes, their excessive use will weaken the hair’s outer structure.
What’s the solution you can find?
It is essential for you to perform toning on your hair using a product which will neutralize orange or yellow undertones which will appear when the silver hue diminishes. Neutralization functions based on laws of colour. According to laws of colour’s principle, any colour which is located exactly opposite another colour of the colour wheel, can neutralize or cancel out that particular colour. So, in order to neutralize yellow or blonde, you need to make use of purple.
Where can you find purple?
In purple-coloured shampoos and masks. When washing your silver hair you’ll be adding purple pigments to your hair to keep the silver-coloured away of the yellow undertones. Even after the dye on your hair has faded back!
Semi-permanent and permanent silver hair dyes contain an amalgamation of purple and blue pigments.
When you shampoo your hair using purple tinted shampoo and apply purple masks that moisturize your hair The silver colour will last for months without having to touch up the silver colour.
The purple masks and shampoos function similarly to semi permanent hair dyes products. They produce a film of pigment which is then deposited onto your hair. It slowly removes the blonde hue and prevents it from appearing again. This means that whenever you wash your hair, you’ll be adding purple pigment, and your silver-coloured hair is likely to last for longer.
WAYS TO USE THE PURPLE SHAMPOO ON YOUR SILVER HAIR
- Wet your hair as usual
- Apply the shampoo in a purple colour from roots to the ends, and massage.
- Allow it to run for 5 to 7 minutes.
- Rinse only with water.
- You should wash your hair with the purple shampoo at minimum once per week to maintain the silver hue.
But what is the best option if the silver hues have faded to a great extent? In that situation, we advise you to apply a purple mask.
HOW TO APPLY PURPLE MASKS
- On hair that is damp, apply the mask from the roots to the ends.
- Make sure you cover every part of your hair with a comb.
- Allow to run for between 10 and 15 minutes.
- Rinse well until water is running clear.
Masks can be applied at least once or twice per week to ensure that your hair’s colour tones are maintained perfectly. If you use the mask more frequently, there is a high risk that you will deposit too much pigment on your hair. This mask is great to apply it once a week when your silver is fading, and every two weeks in case you are still able to see hair dye marks in your hair.
CONCLUSIONS
- If the silver dye begins to fade, the blonde base colour will begin to appear.
- You can get rid of that silver residue by using anti-dandruff shampoos.
- For those who want to prolong the life of the silver hue, apply purple shampoo and masks according to the recommendations.
